Career Services Frequently Asked Questions
Career Services offers workshops to educate and prepare students on how to conduct a job/internship search. Students can find dates and times for various workshops in Handshake (select the Events tab).
All students should complete a Career Preparation Course to ensure a solid understanding of U.S. career job search frameworks, career services, career exploration, and how to conduct an effective job or internship search. Students may also schedule an appointment with a career advisor.
Not only are students provided services but they are also encouraged to proactively self-explore internship and job opportunities and build their transferable skills. We motivate students to think broadly about their career options and consider pursuing multiple career paths, and expand their network of contacts through academic projects, volunteering, part-time work, and paid or unpaid internships.
Yes! The MAnalytics Career services team in partnership with the Fung Institution and Berkeley Career Engagement will schedule employer recruiting events throughout the semester, including information sessions, industry spotlights, and alumni panels. Additionally, students will have a chance to meet employers at the Career & Internship Fairs through the year. Events tab on Handshake and the Career Services Instagram (@berkeleycareerengagement) to learn which employers are recruiting UC Berkeley students.
Yes, Career Services will help you in your job or internship search. We will do this through various forms of support 1:1 appointments, workshops, Berkeley Career Engagement Staff, Fung Institute and more.
MAnalytics does not have a placement model, which means that internship and full time positions are not given to those who enroll in the program. Students in the program are trained on how to search and apply for internship/full time role. This will ensure that as students become alumni they will have the skills and abilities to be responsible and resilient throughout their long-term careers.
As part of the Master of Analytics program and degree attainment process, students are not allowed to accept or undertake an internship or full time role, while currently enrolled in the M/Analytics program, during the academic year they are in the program. The UC Berkeley Master of Analytics (MAnalytics) curriculum outlines that internships or full-time roles can be accepted the Summer after their Fall and Spring academic year. The IEOR department, the MAnalytics program, and Career Services are unable to approve a Fall 2024 or Spring 2025 internship for any currently enrolled MAnalytics graduate student
What services and resources are available to recent graduates (0-3 years post-graduation)?
MAnalytics Alumni have access to Career Services resources, including advising appointments, for three (2) years post-graduation. For assistance with interview preparation, reviewing resume/cover letter documents, developing a job search strategy, or any other career-related questions, Alumni should make appointments with a career advisor via Handshake .
